ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The MSL program is officially recognized by the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, it is composed of 13 face-to-face and online modules, providing comprehensive training in all aspects of lymphedema surgery and under the guidance of a highly qualified and dedicated faculty from all over the world.

This master’s degree is the first life-long master’s degree in Lymphedema speciality, designed and commissioned to meet the needs of the modern healthcare professionals among surgeons to provide an excellence for advanced specialized training in the field of Lymphedema.

GRANT REQUIREMENTS

All Plastic surgeons, General surgeons, Breast surgeons, Vascular surgeons and Orthopaedic surgeons who have completed their residency program and have minimum experience in the field of lymphedema and basic skills in microsurgery. Selection will be based on the applicant professional and academic achievements.

MSL Organization committee is thrilled to announce Anna Baranova from Ukraine & Pujisriyani Prawoto from Indonesia as the recipients of the MIATAKA Europe MSL 2023-25 Grant, recognizing exceptional proposed dedication and innovation in Surgical Lymphology. Chosen from a competitive pool of applicants, Anna and Pujisriyani impressed the selection committee with a visionary proposal and a commitment to drive positive change within the Lymphedema field.

LYMPHATIC SURGERY CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP

The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in collaboration with the Boston Lymphatic Center at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is pleased to offer a one-year fellowship in Lymphatic Surgery.

The fellowship will provide clinical training to treat patients with Lymphedema. The fellow will be working with the multi-disciplinary team in the Boston Lymphatic Center to become adept at the diagnosis and treatment of patients presenting with Lymphedema.

  • Pre-operative evaluation and diagnosis
  • Performance and interpretation of indocyanine green lymphographies
  • Immediate and delayed lymphatic reconstructive operations:

– Lymphovenous bypass for prevention

– Lymph node transplantations

– Lymphovenous bypass

– Debulking procedures

While the focus of the fellowship is on lymphatic surgery, the incumbent will gain experience in the breadth of reconstructive breast procedures including:

  • Oncoplastic Breast surgery
  • Implant based reconstruction
  • Autologous based breast reconstruction (e.g. DIEP flaps)

The Boston Lymphatic Center is a Comprehensive Center of Excellence for Lymphatic Care and the fellow will have the opportunity to work in its NIH funded laboratory studying Lymphatic anatomy.

Qualifications

To qualify for this fellowship the fellow should have:

  • International graduate trained in Plastic Surgery (trained in a Plastic Surgery residency)
  • Completed an ACGME accredited plastic surgery residency
  • USMLE step 1 and step 2 or MCCQE
  • ECFMG certificate if applicable

The fellowship will be accepting applications for the 2025-2026 academic year commencing August 1, 2025.
